The demand for the Food Bank’s services is constant, yet the majority of contributions are focused around the holiday season. The majority of people relying on the Food Bank for emergency food hampers continue to be the working poor, struggling to provide simple necessities for themselves and their families. It is the goal of BD&P to assist the Food Bank in obtaining the resources it needs year round to ensure that all Calgarians who need to rely on the Food Bank, can do so. (this is a direct quote from the letter BD&P sent out to their clients)
For that reason, BD&P thanks their clients and friends for their support and they feel strongly that the increased contribution BD&P can make to the Food Bank is the right thing to do and as a result for 2010 BD&P has committed $200,000 to furthering the legacy fundraising initiative “Put the Boots to Hunger” during Stampede 2010.
Community partners joined BD&P in 2009 and saw over 30 corporations and community groups host events in support of PUT THE BOOTS TO HUNGER raising a total of $33,500 in funds and nearly 17000 lbs of food, along with the generous support of the “Put the Boots to Hunger” Chuckwagon Day Sponsors and BD&P’s initial pledge, the 2009 “Put the Boots to Hunger” campaign raised $350,000 in food and funds at a critical time of year for the Calgary Food Bank.
In 2009, over 124,000 Calgarians required the support of the Calgary Food Bank, an increase of 40 percent from 2008 and it is estimated that 140,000 Calgarians will rely on the Food Bank for assistance this year. The majority of people relying on the Food Bank for emergency food hampers continue to be the working poor. It is our goal to provide the Calgary Food Bank with the resources it needs to ensure that all Calgarians who need to rely on the Calgary Food Bank, can do so.
Please join us in making a donation to the Calgary Food Bank during the PUT THE BOOTS TO HUNGER campaign and help raise awareness and funds for a critical organization upon which far too many Calgarians have to rely. (Donations can be made online or by sending a cheque to the Food Bank or to BD&P. Please make cheques payable to the Calgary Inter-Faith Food Bank, noting our Put the Boots to Hunger campaign.)
